Crystal: Hybrid Seeds for Boston Growers

Crystal is an indica-leaning hybrid cannabis strain bred from **White Widow × Northern Lights** — two of the most awarded landrace-derived strains in modern cannabis breeding. The cross is a stabilized line dating to the 1990s Dutch seed scene. Lab-tested cannabinoid ranges sit at **21–25% THC** and **0.1–0.5% CBD**, placing Crystal among the top-third of THC potency in The Seeds Depot catalog.

Cultivation: Crystal finishes in **8–10 weeks indoors** under 12/12 photoperiod and is named for its exceptionally high trichome density — the strain produces a visible frost layer over both buds and surrounding sugar leaves by week 6. Plants run medium-tall (5–6 feet indoors), respond well to topping and SCROG, and tolerate moderate humidity. For example, Crystal is one of the few high-trichome strains in our catalog that does not require sub-50% RH in the final two weeks to preserve resin integrity.

**Editor's Note — Will Maluk, May 2026:** Crystal has been our reliable workhorse hybrid for six seasons. The White Widow × Northern Lights cross has stabilized so completely over thirty years that phenotype variation is minimal — we get consistent expression batch to batch. The strain genuinely earns its name. By week 5 of flower, sugar leaves and the immediate bud surface are visibly frost-coated; by week 8 the trichome density is among the heaviest we run, comparable to GG4. Trim weight on Crystal contributes meaningfully to our hash production. Yield is heavy, true to both parents. We average 4–5 oz per plant indoors in 5-gallon coco under SCROG, and stretch is a manageable 1.5×; plants finish 4.5–5.5 feet from a 24-inch flip. Crystal finishes closer to 8 weeks than 10 in our experience — we trichome-watch starting day 50, and most batches go 56–60 days. The 10-week upper bound in the literature seems to apply more to under-fed or low-light grows than to well-managed setups. Difficulty is forgiving despite the high THC.
